COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of your course you will be able to:

KNOWLEDGE

Identify basic construction, purpose
and function of components and the
purpose and use of all controls and
gauges.

USAGE

Excavate below ground level on a
variety of excavations in different
ground types.

SETTINGS

Set the machine to excavate.

LIFTING

Carry out a basic lifting exercise.

LOADING/UNLOADING

Explain the loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter.

TRAVEL

Travel the machine over varying
types of terrain, including rough,
undulating ground and substantial
inclines.

BUCKETS

Remove and re-attach buckets.

MANOEUVRE

Manouevre the excavator in
confined areas.

PLACEMENT

Place the machine in an
out-of-service condition.

TERRAIN

Grade, spread and level dfferent
types of terrain

CONFIGURE

Configure the excavator for site
travel.

CHECKS

Carry out all pre-use and
running checks.

EXPLAIN

Precautions to be taken for
underground and overhead services
and other hazards.

SPOIL

Place spoil into various sizes of
vehicles/hoppers.

IDENTIFY AND COMPLY

With manufacturers’ instructions in
accordance with the operator’s
handbook, other information sources
CHECKS and applicable legislation.
